Do I need to be fit before I start?

The most common question, and the one with the shortest answer.

No. Roughly half of the people who start with me are returning after a long break, and a decent share have never trained properly at all.

The first block is built for that: conservative loads, movements chosen for what your body currently does rather than what it should do, and progress measured against where you started. Getting fit enough to start is a loop with no exit — the starting is the getting fit.
